A baby born has a lot of arms to hold, laps to cuddle in, loving eyes to keep a watch
but a mother feels left out
she has just removed a part of her soul, and she feels a void
she’ll need arms to hold her tight, a lap to cry, and eyes to understand.

The baby will cry, and there’ll be lots of people to attend
The tiny one will be held, supported and cushioned when tries to walk and stumble
The little one will never be left alone, for she needs support
A mother doesn’t get time to sink into motherhood
she doesn’t get time to manage her hormones
she doesn’t get time to compose herself
she becomes a mother …very soon

she is overreacting
she is fighting
she wants to be heard
she feels exhausted and overwhelmed

Do not baby talk with the new one
but ask the mother, how are you?
Do not bring gifts for the new one
but get flowers, chocolates and gifts for the mother
Do not shower all your love on the baby
keep something for the mother too

offer her to massage her back
ask her to sleep while you hold the baby
tell her that she’s doing a great job
assure her that you love her
give a peck on her forehead
keep her in your arms
let her weep
allow her to be a misfit mom
